Carla Rutschman

 

Dr. Carla Rutschman, Professor of Music at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, leads and active musical life as tuba performer and violinist, conductor, adjudicator and clinician.  She founded and conducts Heavy Metal, Western Washington University’s low brass ensemble.  As a conductor and band clinician, she is active throughout the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. Women’s International Brass Conference, she has been featured as a soloist with that organization, and she has performed with the Peter Britt Festival Orchestra (35 summer festival seasons), She was  featured as the tuba soloist with Manhatten Transfer in their first live performance of Tubby the Tuba.  As tubist in the Washington Brass Ensemble, Dr. Rutschman has brought informative musical programs to schools throughout Washington state and British Columbia.  She holds the degrees Ph.D. in Musicology (University of Washington), M.Mus. in Performance (Arizona State University) and B.A. in Music Education (University of Northern Colorado).  This season marks her fourth appearance as adjudicator/clinician with the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival.
