SUSTAINABILITY AND THE FUTURE OF THE VANCOUVER KIWANIS MUSIC FESTIVALS

The Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festivals are only able to cover 70 percent of their expenses through registration fees.

We presently receive additional funding to help meet our costs of operation through the generous financial sponsorship of the Pattison Broadcast Group and the Robert L. Conconi Foundation.  Recently we received a community access grant from the BC Gaming Commission.   We have benefited, and still benefit from the long-time support and contributions of The Kiwanis Club of Vancouver, Tom Lee Music and Long & McQuade.   For all of this we are most grateful.

Notwithstanding all of the generous support the Festivals receive, we are challenged each year by the increasing costs of providing first-class adjudicators, suitable venues and administrative support.   The result is that our Festivals MUST fundraise, firstly to ensure a balanced budget, and secondly to work towards the establishment of a reserve fund for use if our current funders find that they can no longer maintain their support.

What are we doing about this?

• We've put together a keen and connected Board of Directors whose main goal is to bring more financial support to our Festivals.
• We've developed a fundraising plan for this year that actually began last November with our successful Hawksworth Dinner Fundraiser.
• We've begun an email campaign asking for pledges from parents and others in our community who believe in the furtherance of musical study; and
• We will be holding a benefit concert on February 8th at Pyatt Hall, located at the new Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music.

We are encouraged by the response so far -- and grateful to the Conconi Foundation for offering a matching amount for whatever we can fundraise to a maximum of $10,000.
