Fiona Blackburn

Adjudicator
Choral Workshop
Adjudicator for Choral Workshop Day for Developing Choirs – Elementary
In the years since Fiona graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in voice performance, she has been a guest soloist with some of Canada’s leading ensembles and orchestras. Fiona sang with the internationally-acclaimed Vancouver Chamber Choir, under the direction of Jon Washburn, for thirteen seasons; she has performed numerous roles during five seasons with the Vancouver Opera and has also created roles in both musical theatre and light opera productions. Fiona enjoyed five summers as a featured vocalist aboard an Alaskan cruise ship. As either a singer or a choral conductor, Fiona has performed throughout North America and in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Scotland, England and Germany. Fiona’s passion for Celtic music has led to two solo recordings, which have received enthusiastic reviews and airplay in North America and Europe. Fiona also enjoys working with young singers and so went back to UBC to earn a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Music. There, she was awarded the Don Wright Scholarship for excellence in choral education. This year, she is finishing a Masters degree in Choral Conducting, also at UBC. Fiona is the Artistic Director of the British Columbia Girls Choir, an award-winning group of young ladies who love to travel and sing. Fiona is a sought-after adjudicator and clinician, both within British Columbia and beyond, and hopes to inspire young singers to improve their skills.
